It was a particularly cold Wairarapa winters night, my wooden Greytown villa was impossible to heat. A year in perpetual summer seemed appealing.

I was talking on the phone with Jarl and I remember saying that it will be an adventure. If that was the only reason I went to Saudi then it's been one hell of a success.

These are my adventures from since arriving in Riyadh, one August high summer night. Mostly travel orientated but also an account of life in Saudi, compound style, on the rare occassions something intersting happened.

Sinaia 1

I used to love my trips into Europe when I lived in the UK and this was first of the return leg. I hadn’t seen Andra in 4 years. They say that the mountain air there is the freshest around, it was certainly something because I just couldn’t stop sleeping. Not the most photogenic place but I had been in Saudi 7 months by then so it was just amazing to see people walking around the streets.....with their faces uncovered. When I got back to work my boss asked me how my vacation was. I replied everything a vacation should be. I loved it.  And you can buy cheap small bottles of the local vodka from the corner shop.
